Next Kids Class

Hi, Everyone!

It's been a while since I've updated this site but wanted to let you know that our little guy was born on October 20 and he is doing well! I'll be taking a break from classes and workshops until after Christmas. Right now I've put January 14 on the calendar as the first Monday back to Kid's classes. As always, please let me know if you're interested in having your child join us. Info for pricing and so forth can be found under the "Classes" tab. More info will be coming on the next Adult's Workshop too.

Thanks!
Elsa

August Kids' Classes and Upcoming Adult Workshop

Hi, everyone! Hard to believe a month has passed since I last blogged but it's been a busy, full month of vacationing and doing family activities. I hope your summer has been as fun and enjoyable as ours!

Just wanted to update you on our upcoming classes:

For the kids, there is a new 5 week session beginning Monday night, August 20th at Splatter's. The class is open to grades 2nd and up. I have allowed a few younger children to participate in the past based on their ability so please feel free to contact me with any special requests. During the 5 week session, we will be focusing on drawing, painting and sculpting. All projects are created to encourage each child to excel at their own pace and I strive to bring out each one's personal creativity while developing their skills as well. $75 fee for 5 week session. $15 discount if you get a friend or sibling to sign-up too!

For the adults, next Monday (August 13) there will be a clay windchime workshop for all interested. Teens are also welcome! 6:30-8:30pm. $30 fee for project. ($15 if you bring a first-time attending friend.)

Also for adults... please let me know if you are interested in joining a painting class or know of someone else interested. I'm hoping to start a class that meets regularly for acrylic painting. Need feedback for a good time and location to meet.

Latest Kid's Classes

We just finished a great couple months of classes and I have to share photos of the girls doing their different projects. There's so much enthusiasm and creativity in this group. Loved spending time with them and teaching! It's easy to teach when you have such willing participants who love art as much as I do!

This coming Monday night we have an open workshop for kids and adults. It features building a clay wind chime. Check out my facebook page for more information.

Family Signature Trees

Seems like the new thing to make is a family tree using thumbprints. I recently attended a wedding where the guestbook was actually a thumbprint tree and of course I had to them make my own version. So if you know of anyone interested in creating a family tree for their family or someone getting married who wants a unique keepsake, please feel free to share this option with them. It would also make a special anniversary gift!

I can easily adjust the colors and can print names in or just leave the branches blank for people to sign when they add their fingerprints.

Check out the link to several design options: Signature Trees

Mosaic Projects

We held another workshop where each person chose their own item to mosaic. Part of the project involved making one's own tiles out of clay and glaze. There was also the addition of other found pieces (i.e. shells, beads, commercial tiles, broken glass, etc..). It's always a terrific surprise to see each person's own creativity come through. Here are two items created by members of our class. So fantastic!
(...and hopefully there will be more pictures to come!)

Painting Flowers

by Julianna

Julianna did this painting in an hour during our Kid's Painting Class, held on Thursday nights. We meet at Splatter's Studio Ltd. in Spencerport, NY. She has a wonderful ability to match colors and to really look and paint what she sees. Great job!

Landscape Mosaic Workshop Results!

They turned out beautifully! Thank you, to all the ladies who participated!!! I truly enjoyed each one and LOVE how unique each piece turned out with their personal creative touches. The pictures don't do them justice. They look even better in person.

Making Tiles

Tonight the ladies from our Landscape Mosaic workshop will complete their pieces and I am looking forward to posting the results! In preparation for our next workshop, I've been making small tiles to be used in a new mosaic project. Admittedly, I could sit and make these tiles every day. They're fun and obviously the options are limitless. Here are just a few unfired, unglazed samples...
**So happy to have my camera back in working order after finding the battery recharger just yesterday!

Photography Show and Commissioned Artwork

Back in 2008, I had the privilege of participating in a photography show in downtown Rochester. It was held at Image City Gallery and I was thrilled to receive a sweet review by Peter Marr. Some images from the show can be found here on my Photography page, along with a few other art photos created during that time. The page holds just a sampling of work I've done since learning how to manipulate images with the use of Photoshop, an Adobe product that has proven so useful for layering, texturing, etc... There are many photo manipulation tools out on the market today but this is the one I'm most familiar with since studying graphic design in 2004.

I often take portrait shots for friends and family and have created special art pieces from what we sometimes consider ordinary pictures, like the one of the Dandelion Kiss above. If you are ever interested in having a special art piece created, please feel free to ask. Last year I took on a cd cover project for a storyteller. His wife had passed away from cancer when his children were still very young and he wanted a special angelic-type image made to feature the story about his wife's life and death. He provided me with the images and I used my skills in photoshop to create this cover. It took a combination of layering techniques, painting and image enhancement to produce these results.
